2. El verbo gustar (this is a special verb) INB 34
Today we will learn to express likes and dislikes with infinitives and nouns. On the first part of this lesson we will learn gustar with verbs or activities.
How do we ask what do you like to do in Spanish?
¿Qué te gusta hacer?
When you want to talk about what you like to do use:
Use phrases like "me gusta + infinitive"
"I like + infinitive"
Remember the infinitive is the basic form of a verb or when the verb is not conjugated (in English when you see To before the verb).
Here is how:
( A mi )Me gusta bailar - I like to dance
( A ti )Te gusta bailar- You like to dance (informal/familiar)
( A usted) Le gusta bailar - You (formal singular) like to dance/He/She likes to dance
( A nosotros/as)Nos gusta bailar - We like to dance
( A vosotros/as)Os gusta bailar - You (informal pl.) like to dance
( A ellos/ellas / A ustedes) ) Les gusta bailar -
You (formal pl.) like to dance/They like to dance
Make it negative by adding “no” at the beginning. Example -----> ( A mi ) No me gusta bailar. I don't like to dance
( A ti ) No te gusta bailar. You don't like to dance
When you want to identify the person or really emphasize, ADD a + noun/pronoun
A Jasmine (noun) le gusta bailar- Jasmine likes to dance
A ella (pronoun) le gusta bailar-She likes to dance
